    This is a really good post. I’ve been lifting for a little over a year, and never found the Smith Machine a good way to excercise. So instead I use free weight which I found to be a lot better, in fact, I used to have a little pain (maybe was some stress as you mention) in my shoulder while doing chest press on the Smith Machine a while ago, I don’t have the same problem now, and you are right, doing squats are a lot better using free weight as well. Thank you.

    Thanks for confirming what I suspected. I dislike using this type of machine because I felt that I didn’t get as good of a workout as with free weights. When I get tired with the free weights, I start to struggle side to side. I felt that that motion strengthened the muscles that support the core ones. With the smith machine my shoulder would start to hurt before I got tired. Thanks again
