Hi Judy,

My first reaction to your message was you need to relax. Worry causes stress, which releases hormones which can lead to inhibited weight loss. Let me illustrate with some of the words and phrases you used..."desperately trying...no matter what I eat...very depressed...I need to lose...". What you NEED to do is to ask yourself what do you want? Do you really need to lose weight? Why? What's your ultimate, positive outcome. Focus on that and only that. Stop thinking you need to do something. Weight Watchers is a tried and true program. Make sure you eat enough, because eating too few calories can be just as harmful as eating too many. Focus on the best possible outcome - on what you want, not what you don't want. Follow the Weight Watchers program and allow the results to happen.

I am 66years old and desperately trying to diet with weight watchers. No matter what I eat, I dont seem to lose and keep it off. Up two days and down one day, my weight fluctuates so much and I get very depressed. I am trying to figure out if it is the combination of foods that I eat, and if so, how should I change it. I am doing 1200 calories a day. I need to lose at least 35 pounds, and have not hit on the right way to do it. I was sick for awhile with a bad cold and the flu, and my husband had to keep telling me to eat something, anything, just to keep up my strength. And even though I felt really bad for about 3 weeks, and was eating very little, I did not lose even a half pound. Can you tell me what to try. thank you

Hi Justin,

One way to begin to lower your overall carb intake throughout the day is to make your snacks lower in carbs first. Forget about the meals for the time being. Only focus on getting the snacks balanced. An even smaller step is to focus only on one meal, say breakfast.

This post is making my head spin. The biggest take away for me was the suggestions for a lower carb intake. I totally get shaky when I don't eat for a while, and I have a family history of heart disease and diabetes.

I'm going to try decreasing just a bit and see what happens. The hardest part for me is moderation. So even a 5% change is difficult to measure, but I'll give it a shot.

Thanks!

Hi Karen,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

The easiest way is to use a calorie counting software or program such as DietPower (http://befitandstrong.com/goto/diet_power/).

They provide you with the nutritional information of thousands of foods.

Hope this helps.
