Craig,

You're not giving me much to go on here buddy.

Listen, at 15 I was overweight and more than annoyed. Try depressed and frustrated.

The best advice I can give you is to learn about the food you eat. Read the articles in the nutrition section. But most importantly relax. At 15 years old, you've got lots of time to learn. I know you want a quick solution, but I'm gonna tell you...whether you believe me or not is up to you...but there is no quick fix here.

I don't know why you use food the way you do. But I do know, unknowing what you know and relearning what you need to know will take patience, persistence and consistency. Are you willing to do it?

If so, stay tuned. Keep reading. Keep learning and never give up.

Hi Denise,

Yes, I believe you can tone up your arms without lifting them overhead.

Exercises like the dumbbell chest press will work the triceps and the bent over dumbbell row will work your biceps.

I'm working on the bent over row video right now and it should be up in the next day or so.

Also, if you aren't getting a good workout from your walk, try picking a route that provides some hills or purchase a weighted vest.

Hope this helps. Stay tuned for more exercise videos.

Curtis, I have been a yoyo dieter for many years, I walk everyday but really do not get a good cardio work out with that. I want to tone up etc, but I have shoulders that are restricted, I can not lift above my head up in the air. I have had surgery but they still get really sore if I use them too much. I have some 2 pound wieghts I know not heavy but all I can manage. I have just started doing some of your triceps exercises I really need that, I am 56 and not in best shape. Do you think there is hope for me, do you think the exercise balls are worth investing in, I am thinking of getting one with a DVD. I can not afford a personal trainer. Do you think I can still tone my arms with out having to lift above head?

Usually the best solution for the seasonal danger of gaining weight is just not eating so much and having a lot of activity. That's all. Oh, maybe something to do with a spare time - not only watching tv. In front of tv it's the best place to eat:)
And also-laughing a lot , oh, yeah!

Clinton,

I agree, exercise can help make you feel better. But...

What do you do when you don't feel motivated to even get dressed or eat? How do you move yourself - physically and/or mentally - to exercise?

I believe the best way to fight depression is the exercise and eat right. Instead of hurting yourself it is best to relieve stress by exercising. At least when you are not depressed anymore you are healthier.

A balanced diet, rich in fresh fruits and vegetables will eliminate many of those toxins, particularly if the produce is organic. A good multivitamin supplement provides extra nutritional insurance.
Start replacing coffee and soda with water. Enjoy sweet fruits, such as apples and plums, instead of candy or pastries. "An apple a day keeps the doctor away"--a cliche for a reason--it's true!
You can treat depression with other nonmedical treatments, including meditation or yoga, taking up a new hobby, or spiritual counseling, to name just a few.
